No one considers themselves a negative person, but there are symptoms and actions that are characteristic of sowing seeds of negativity.

Do you tell yourself and believe these messages lies?

  • “I’m not skinny enough.”
  • “I’m not smart enough.”
  • “I don’t have the training.”
  • “I have never been a runner, so I never will be.”
  • “That employer won’t think I’m good enough, so I won’t apply for the job.”
  • “I don’t deserve to be happy.”
  • “The lord will never use me, I have sinned too many times.”

None of these messages are true, so stop letting them guide your mind and heart! This is especially important if you are raising teenagers because as they hear you say these things to yourself they will come to believe these lies and begin assuming they are true about themselves as well.

Ephesians 6:11 “Put on the whole armor of God, so that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.”

We are always told that we have limits in life – time, money, physical abilities – but let God’s promises guide your actions and His spirit guide your steps. It’s easy to believe the messages that are reinforced by the media and more so by the people around us. Their news is not your news!

Avoid allowing messages that are NOT from God into your life as they can prevent you from sowing seeds of kindness, faithfulness, love, and acceptance. This contamination can also cause you to reject the blessing that God has for you.

Adolescent ears and eyes see and hear everything you do, so be careful! Teenage girls especially begin copying the behavior of those around them early, so help instill confidence in who they are by ensuring they hear you say positive messages about yourself.

Jeremiah 29:11 “For I know the plans I have for you,” says the Lord. “They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope.”

Changing your actions begins with changing your attitude, mindset and word. If those around you are not supporting your positive changes, then you may need to limit their influence on you. This can be challenging, but God will guide you through the storms and you will be more blessed because of it! Don’t wait: take the leap today!
