Do you believe that God provisions are what we need? Sometimes, our own desires and wants cloud what it is that we truly need. Maybe your kids are like mine when you go to a store. They “need” every toy and the newest fashions. Instead of giving in, why not turn the experience into a teachable moment? Ask them if they have clothes in their closet? When they say yes, ask them if they think the “must have” shirt is something they want or need. Moments like this keep my thoughts and desires in check as well, and it brings to mind what the Bible says in Matthew 6:31-33:
“Therefore do not be anxious, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ For the Gentiles seek after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them all. But seek ye first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.”
God provides us with exactly what we need when we need it. Sometimes it’s financial. Other times, it’s through the people whom He places around us. He knows what we need and it’s best to solely rely on Him.
Small mistakes like this can be poor financial decisions. If we are not careful, they can add up quickly and overwhelm us, especially when trying to budget the resources of what God has given you. It’s worse when you are locked into making payments for an extended length of time on something that you really didn’t need. If you have made a mistake like this, it’s not too late to change and be prepared to handle future decisions according to God’s timing. In Romans 12:2 the word says:
“Do not be conformed to this world, but be ye transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.”
One last thought: Encourage your kids to help display the provision of God and sowing seeds for others by purchasing the toy or shirt they thought they so “wanted” or “needed” and giving it to another child who actually is in need. I guarantee this will be a lesson on giving that they will never forget. This is what the scripture means when it says to “Seek God’s kingdom first”. It means paying attention to those around us and doing more than just praying. Prayer is powerful, but God wants to use us to take care of His people.
